Office and Upcoming Closures

Missoula County Public Works/Building Division is closed to the public until further notice. Online permitting is available at MissoulaCounty.Build and permits can be dropped off and picked up by using the boxes located outside our front doors.

Inspections

Building inspections will continue to be done in person on OUTSIDE/EXTERIOR AND NEW CONSTRUCTIONS as priority. We will take requests for inspections on interior projects as well but we will follow CDC recommendations pertaining to masks and 6 feet social distancing. Inspections can be requested 24 hours in advance. We cannot guarantee same-day inspections, but will accommodate as schedules allow. Inspection requests can be sent to permits@missoulacounty.us or made by calling 406-258-3701 and leaving a message.

2018 International Energy Conservation Code Adoption

The State of Montana Department of Labor & Industry Building Codes Program adopted administrative rules for the new 2018 International Energy Conservation building code, effective February 13, 2021. Missoula County adopted the proposed Resolution No. 2021-072 on May 13, 2021.

Online Payments Suspended

We’re currently experiencing issues with our payment processing system. Until further notice, payments may be made:

  • By phone: Call Public Works at 406-258-3701.
  • In person: Drop off payments at the Public Works office at 6089 Training Drive from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday (excluding holidays) in envelope labeled with referenced address or permit application number.
  • By mail: Checks or money orders should be made out to MCPW Building Division and sent to 6089 Training Drive, Missoula, MT 59808. Be sure to reference the address or permit application number.
